Orange County School of the Arts’ Ambassador Jazz Orchestra to open for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

Orange County School of the Arts’ (OCSA) renowned Ambassador Jazz Orchestra will open for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on Jan. 21, 2022

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), directed by Wynton Marsalis, is comprised of 15 of the world's finest jazz soloists and arrangers. Marsalis, managing and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, is a winner of nine Grammy Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize in Music. He is both a prodigious trumpeter and composer and is arguably the most influential jazz musician of his generation.

The Ambassador Jazz Orchestra, directed by John Reynolds, D.M.A., is the flagship award-winning ensemble from The Garn Family Jazz Studies Program, which is part of OCSA’s Instrumental Music Conservatory. The orchestra has been awarded top honors at numerous jazz festivals, including the renowned Reno International Jazz Festival.

The Garn Family Jazz Studies Program at OCSA is modeled after a university-level jazz conservatory. The program provides opportunities for students to perform in large and small ensembles, in addition to studying a rigorous theory and improvisation curriculum. Students in the program matriculate to many prestigious universities and conservatories after graduation including: The Juilliard School, Berklee School of Music, the University of Southern California and Peabody Conservatory.

"It is an immeasurable honor to share the stage with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share the spirit of swing with the Segerstrom Center audience and witness the stunning musicality of the artists who comprise the JLCO. It will truly be an event our students will remember for a lifetime,” Reynolds said.

Tickets for the performance are available online or at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts box office.
