Every morning at OCSA, all students, staff, and faculty come together for a few minutes for important announcements on a daily broadcast called Art Attack Live (AAL).
This unique, live streamed production is run entirely by Film & Television students in grades 10 through 12 under the supervision of Mr. Michael Brown and OCSA administration. Each week, a new set of hosts take the AAL stage and every day brings a different theme!
Sadira Wong (FTV, ‘24) is the producer of AAL and said that she is proud to work closely with a dedicated student crew to ensure a smooth broadcast every morning. She also coordinates with Ms. Anita Sanchez and the weekly hosts to make sure that the script and teleprompter are ready for each show. Sadira also said that this experience has allowed her to witness the power of teamwork and the impact it can have on their production.
“My time on the Art Attack team as a Producer has been incredibly fulfilling. Leading a dedicated crew in the daily production of OCSA's announcement broadcast, I've witnessed a high level of focus, passion, and professionalism among my teammates. Our commitment to delivering vital announcements has instilled in me a sense of responsibility and pride, contributing to the collective experience of our school community,” Sadira said.
Not only does the AAL team showcase their resilience and adaptability on a daily basis, but they clearly demonstrate excellent problem solving skills with only a moment’s notice. Mr. Brown, FTV instructor and AAL advisor, describes the team as a passionate group of problem solvers who always does their best and grows from any mistakes.
Ella Jerrier (FTV, ‘25) is in charge of audio for AAL, and was one of those FTV students who was inspired by her experience watching the AAL crew as a freshman, said that she thought it was really awesome that the broadcast she had been watching all year was actually being run by students. Ella joined the AAL team as soon as she could and said that it was so impactful to work with upperclassmen, and that she learned so much. Her current role for AAL involves setting up microphones, running mic tests, playing music during the broadcast, and monitoring microphone levels.
“It’s a super fun job because I get to be involved, but it can also be stressful when things start to go wrong. I definitely learned to roll with the punches,” Ella said.
Students like Sadira and Ella grow and learn from the experience of being on the AAL team, and share that knowledge with the next group of students wanting to be a part of the live television crew.
“I’m always inspired by the upperclassman’s willingness to help our incoming crew members. They are giving, empathetic, and know what it feels like to come in and be a new part of this team,” said Mr. Brown.
The AAL student team and Mr. Brown encourage any students to sign up to be hosts for Art Attack, and to experience the collaboration with AAL. They also said that they are appreciative of the respect and attention of students, staff, and faculty during the AAL broadcast every day. The crew puts a lot of effort into the preparation and production of each and every show.
