COVID-19 Update: Temporary School Closure Beginning Monday, March 16th

These are unprecedented times for the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) community as we deal with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. This situation is rapidly evolving and in these extraordinary circumstances, our OCSA community must come together to help one another, to show care and compassion for those who are vulnerable, and to each do our part in service of the greater good. We are writing today to enlist your support in these ongoing efforts.

With the recent declaration of a global pandemic, the declaration of a national emergency by the federal government, and the closure of school districts throughout the state, including our current local charter authorizer, Santa Ana Unified School District, health authorities have asked us all to support the health of the wider community and mitigate the spread of this disease.

Therefore, OCSA is adhering to the Orange County Department of Education's recommendation to begin an organized, temporary closure beginning Monday, March 16th. We expect to resume regular classroom instruction on Monday, April 13th following the previously scheduled Spring Break. On Wednesday, March 18th, online distance learning will begin.

The following is a timeline for OCSA’s temporary school closure:

Monday, March 16th - Tuesday, March 17th: Temporary school closure begins; there will be no student instruction. On these days, academic and elective faculty and staff will be making final preparations for the launch of the OCSA Distance Learning Plan; conservatory faculty and staff will continue to work for the duration of the week on developing their materials. If students need to retrieve any items from their lockers, they may do so on these two days between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

Wednesday, March 18th: Online distance learning for ACADEMIC and ELECTIVE classes begins.

Monday, March 23rd: Online distance learning for CONSERVATORY classes begins.

Monday, April 13th: Regular classroom instruction resumes, unless families are notified otherwise.
