STAR Testing Schedule
All 7th through 11th Grade Students
Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 26, 2013 &
Monday, April 29 and April 30, 2013
Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):
The Academic Performance Index (API) measures the overall student performance at every public school in California. The high school’s academic performance is measured in four content areas:
- Mathematics
- Reading/Language Arts
- History/Social Science
- Science
At this time, the Standardized Testing and ReportingProgram (STAR) and the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) are the instruments used to determining each school’s academic achievement.
STAR exams for the 2012-2013 school year begin Monday, April 22, 2013 and continue through Tuesday, April 30, 2013, with make-up exams occurring May 1 through May 3, 2013. It is very important that our students perform to the best of their ability on these exams. Also, on Tuesday, March 5, all 7th grade students will be taking a STAR Writing Exam during their Block 1 class.
Research has shown that students who are well rested and who eat a good breakfast on the morning of a test perform better than those who do not. Please help us in reinforcing with your children the need to do their individual best on this series of tests. Results will allow them to measure individual academic growth from year to year as well as to collectively demonstrate how well the OCSA student body has achieved. OCSA’s high API score is a large contributing factor in the school’s stellar academic reputation and that reputation has a large effect on college admissions. By doing well on these tests, OCSA students help themselves and each other!

Seniors do not take STAR exams; therefore, if they choose, seniors may wait to come to school until after the testing each day. NOTE: If a senior arrives at the regular start time during STAR Testing, they must report to Symphony Hall for a supervised study hall.
If a senior chooses to come in late during STAR Testing, please be sure to return a signed peremission slip before April 20, 2013.
