About the OCHSA's Guitar
Program |
|
The Guitar Program features curriculum designed specifically for
classical and electric guitarists and includes courses such as guitar
theory and history, guitar ensemble, and a guitar master class. Training
in both classical and jazz styles are also included. Students accepted
into the Guitar Program also participate in additional music courses
with students enrolled in the school’s other Instrumental Music
Conservatory programs such as Music Theory and Music History. Students
perform in a variety of venues throughout the year and participate in
local festivals and competitions |

About Vasil Chekardzhikov, Coordinator, Guitar Program |
|
Vasil Chekardzhikov currently serves as Coordinator of the Guitar
Program. Born in Varna, Bulgaria, Chekardzhikov started his musical
studies at the age of five. He played the accordion for four years
before beginning guitar studies with world-renowned pedagogue Liuben
Haralmbiev at the age of nine. A graduate from the high school of the
arts “Dobri Hristov” in Varna, Chekardzhikov holds a bachelor’s degree
in music education with four specialties: classical guitar, voice,
solfegio (ear training) and tambura. Additionally, he gradated magna cum
laude with a master’s degree in guitar performance from California State
University, Fullerton. Chekardzhikov maintains a performing and
recording career as a soloist and chamber musician with his brothers
Nikola and Petar Chekardzhikovi in the internationally recognized guitar
trio Triada. With more than a thousand concert appearances, four CD
releases, and a dozen national and international awards, Chekardzhikov
is widely recognized for his exceptional talent. He has also maintained
a private studio of students ages 4-40 years old for more than twelve
years. |
