OVERVIEW
As one of the premier arts schools in the nation, the Orange County
High School of the Arts embraces and encourages artistic creativity
and academic excellence. This innovative public charter school
provides a uniquely challenging and nurturing environment focused on
individual growth, opportunity, and diversity. The U.S. Department
of Education and the National Endowment for the Arts have recognized
the Orange County High School of the Arts as a model arts education
program. The school is also accredited by the Western Association of
Schools and Colleges (WASC).STUDENTS AND FACULTY
The school currently serves a culturally diverse student body of
more than 1,350 students from 92 cities throughout Southern
California in grades 7-12. The academic faculty is fully
credentialed, and the majority of the 200 arts and academic teachers
hold advanced degrees. They are dedicated and supportive
professionals who help students develop the skills necessary to
succeed in higher education, or a profession in the arts. Guest
artists and industry leaders also share their expertise and
creativity with students through lectures, presentations, and
hands-on training.
CURRICULUM

Academics:
The Orange County High School of the Arts provides a rigorous
college preparatory academic program aligned to the California State
Standards. Students attend approximately five hours of academic
classes in addition to three hours of daily arts instruction.
Students maintain a school-wide Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.16,
with the senior class averaging a 3.47 GPA. More than 33 percent of
the junior and senior classes earn a 4.0 GPA or higher. The school
also offers twelve advanced placement classes.
Offering one of the most demanding and intensive academic
programs in Southern California, the school has been ranked in the
top ten percent of high schools in the State of California, and is
one of the top five highest ranking high school academic programs in
Orange County, based on an Academic Performance Index (API) test
score of 868. In 2005, the Orange County High School of the Arts was
the only school in Orange County with 100% of its students to pass
the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

Arts:
Established in 1987, the Orange County High School of the Arts is the place
for aspiring young artists to refine their skills and flourish in
one of11 arts conservatories offered, including Ballet Folklorico,
Classical & Contemporary Dance, Commercial Dance, Creative Writing,
Film & Television, Instrumental Music, Integrated Arts, Music &
Theatre, Opera & Choral, Production & Design, or Visual Arts. COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE
Ninety-nine percent of the school’s graduates are accepted
into institutions of higher education and the remaining pursue a
career in the arts industry upon graduation ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students interested in attending must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA,
satisfactory citizenship. All applicants must audition and provide
transcripts and letters of recommendation TUITION
The school is tuition free, donation dependent. No student is
admitted or denied based on financial capacity.
FUNDING
The 2007-2008 school year is based on a $13 million total operating
budget. Academic instruction is funded by the State of California,
totaling $9 million annually. The school relies solely on the
generosity of individual donors, the business community, and
foundations to fund the 11 pre-professional arts conservatories. The
school must raise more than $4 million this year-approximately
$2,800 per student-to continue offering a comprehensive arts
program. Nearly 25% of the school's 1,350 students have requested
financial assistance to help fund their arts conservatory program. LOCATION
