COMMUNITY COLLEGES
Seniors planning on
attending a community college in the fall
need to contact that particular school for application
and admission
requirement information. Community colleges conduct
English and Math
assessments to gather information, which along with the
student’s
transcript, goals, intended major and other pertinent
information
enable the colleges’ counselors to make
appropriate placement for
the student. It is IMPORTANT that students planning on
attending a
community college inquire about placement assessment,
which usually
occurs around March.

Many students find that enrollment at a community
college for the
first two years of a four-year program and then
transferring as a
junior to a four-year school is often the best way to
go. Among the
advantages are the fact that in financial terms, it is
much easier
on the budget, gives students who are undecided on a
major some more
time to make a decision, offers students smaller classes
and better
teacher/student ratio, gives students who are rejected
by a
four-year university a chance to reapply later and be
accepted as
transfer students, and allows those students with poor
high school
records to have a fresh start. |
